About Joshua Schrimpf

Joshua Schrimpf

Joshua was born in Jefferson City and attended Jefferson City High School before attending Westminster College. He graduated from Westminster with honors after completing majors in Economics, Environmental Studies, and also International Relations. As part of his international focus, he spent a year at the University of Lancaster in England studying various subjects including law. Following college, Joshua attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law where he devoted time to international study through comparative legal programs both with the London Law Consortium in England, as well as with the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. He also attended the University of Syracuse School of Law in his final year of law school where he interned with the Oswego County Prosecutor's Office.

Joshua served with the New York City Bar's Committee on Drugs and the Law from 2009 -2016, studying the international frameworks underlying worldwide drug control and the criminalization of private drug use. This research involved personal interviews with world dignitaries and two visits to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria, culminating in 2016 following the publication of "Charting A Wiser Course" by the Committee at the 2016 United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Drugs in New York. Joshua has worked in various legal areas, including real estate, business formation, and civil litigation, but his primary focus has been on defending the accused in the criminal context.

He writes frequently regarding the fundamental inconsistencies in both U. S. Constitutional Law and in the international human rights framework in regard to criminal law, and particularly in regard to drug possession. He has a passion for helping those caught up in the criminal system, and particularly those charged with per se offenses such as drug possession and related issues such as DWI. Joshua practiced as a private attorney in Syracuse, NY until 2012, when he returned home to open a Missouri based practice in Jefferson City.

Joshua and his wife were married in 2005. They have four children together. He believes firmly that healthy individuals and healthy societies develop not through coercion and force, but rather through education and investment in liberty and fundamental freedom. In his career as a defense attorney, he has seen first hand the way that health, civic commitment, and even private morality are eroded by the state's intervention into private affairs. He has also witnessed the frequency with which the Constitutional Rights of the accused are disregarded even where legitimate crimes have occurred. These injustices are the basis for his continued commitment to those accused of criminal violations.
